If you are tired of slipping and sliding around winter roads in the Norther U.S. or Canada you might want to think about looking at your options when it comes to four wheel drive cars.

There are quite a few auto companies that make great all wheel drive vehicles these days and while you will get a better AWD system if you go with a foreign make you can still get a domestic model with an all wheel drive system as well.

If you want the best you should probably choose a model with Acura’s SH-AWD such as the MDX, RDX or TL. While there might be other aspects of these vehicles that lose to cars from other automakers the SH-AWD system is one of the top performing traction systems on the market.

Of course Audi can’t be left out since they have included their extremely popular quattro AWD system on most of the cars they have sold in America. They may be a step behind Acura at this point except in the case of the torque sensing quattro version on the high performance S4.

The other German companies like BMW and Mercedes also have their own take on what all wheel drive means and you should check out their models with xDrive and 4Matic.

If you are looking more at the budget end of things then you ought to look at the Subaru lineup. Like Audi, Subaru has been in this business for a long time and makes a good product at a more affordable price than the German companies.
